As a single lady in Nigeria especially, it’s pretty easy to allow your single years to pass while you’re waiting for a husband to come by. Most single ladies spend the time waiting and they never really live. Every decision they take is determined by what the society considers to be marriageable behaviour.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to get married, but suspending your life till a man comes along is so not cool. There’s so much more you can do with your single years, so much more, because they will never come back. On that note, here are five things every single woman should do before she gets married:
If you’re like most women, you’ve been through your share of heartbreaks and heartaches along the way. Unfortunately, few women make time to heal from the pain. They just use new relationships as bandages to cover the wounds of the past and this is not an effective strategy. If you find yourself single at this time, instead of agonizing about your single lady status, look within and heal any old wounds. This will help you have a better marriage.
2. Close the doors
There are some people that should not follow you into your future. There are some habits you need to stop because they don’t reflect your best self. You know them, deep within your heart you know those things, so stop them. Let those people go; those ones who make you feel like you’re not good enough. Surround yourself with love and light and that’s exactly what you’ll attract.
The best thing about being single is that you can literally up and go anywhere you want without having to account for your every move. There’s no husband or child that needs your attention. There’s just you. You don’t have to spend a truckload of money to travel abroad if you can’t afford it, just go somewhere you’ve never been before.
Learn as much as you can in this period. Further your education, learn a new language or a new skill or both. Improve your mind and improve your life so you can have better experiences.
5. Enjoy your life
You have this one life and it’s a journey, you will never be in this very same set of circumstances again and believe it or not you’ll miss it. So relish every moment as a single lady. This is the best time of your life so live your life and enjoy your life.
Your prince charming will come, but in the meantime, make the most of the time that you have now because you’ll never get it back.
Before you go, here are three levels of maturity you must have before getting married.
