The Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents of University of Uyo and Akwa Ibom State College of Education Afaha Nsit, Duff Gabriel Enyeneokpon and Akwaowo Uwakmfon , are among suspects detained by Police in Yenagoa for illegal possession of firearms and an attempted murder of Comrade Tonye Samuel of University of Port Harcourt during the botched NANS convention at Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Parading the suspects on Monday at the Command Headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr Asuquo Amba, also disclosed that three suspects: Emmanuel Ebere, Obiakariie Innocent and Iniobong Okon Ben, are in detention in connection with the murder of a certain Magam Elvis, a Law student of the University of Uyo.
CP Asuquo named suspects detained alongside the College of Education and UNIUYO SUG Presidents as Akpan Esuabanga Okon, Aaron Wisdom and Etefia Otobong Harrison.
He explained how Magam Elvis was murdered: “On Sunday, the Command deployed 11 patrol teams in conjunction with the Army/NSCDC/Otuoke Vigilantee/ University Internal security to FUO premises to provide security for the NANS national elections.
“The Vice- Chancellor, FUO, Prof Accra Seth Jaja addressed all the students to be law abiding and that only accredited delegates will proceed to the hall for the elections. Later gunshot was heard from the crowd outside the hall. One Magam Elvis of University of Uyo died as a result of bullet wound injury. His body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”
The police confirmed that they also have in their custody eight students including Bayelsa NANS President, Perewari Benjamin arrested for involvement in armed robbery and cultism. He listed the remaining seven as Asari Enagob, Suoguai Bina, Ibe Ogbonna, Igbanibo Tari, Ekperi Kenneth, Kemefie Ebimene and Chukuma Lawrence.
The Commissioner assured that the suspects would be charged to court.
